Gamefreak needs to stop pandering to comp-tards and start creating Pokémon around their in-game roles again.
Gen 3 is a good example of how you do it, stuff like Nosepass, Slaking, Milotic etc are all clearly created with their respective gym leader’s in mind and it gives them a stronger identity than they’d otherwise have, Slaking especially just FEELS like an RPG boss, even when you’re using one yourself. There’s also stuff like Shedinja and Kecleon that are clearly balanced around gimmicks that work best in-game, not to mention all the ~400 BST non-evolving mons that are made with consideration to the fact that the player won’t always be fighting fully evolve high BST beasts. Making Pokémon this way just makes the single player experience significantly better, as it is now Pokémon often seem designed around gimmicks that they don’t even WANT you to use during the main story. Like, when even early game shitmons hav a BST of nearly 500, it just comes across like the games are embarrassed to be an RPG, and it’s disappointing when I know it doesn’t have to be this way
