>>53688070I don't hate the idea of happy endings, but the happy ending of PMD: EoS basically takes the message of "I want to do something meaningful with my life so that I can continue to live in people's hearts" and throws it out the window to give people the satisfaction of the game ending. It feels good that the characters are alive, but it is TERRIBLE writing because they weren't meant to survive that because of some Deus Ex Machina "God saves us because????"
People praise Grovyle's monologue for the philosophy it teaches, when the game itself basically shits on that philosophy by bringing Grovyle and the crew back to life. It pretty much removes any consequence from the plot.
Not only that, but the way EoS does it pretty much introduces a giant plothole in the form of "If Arceus cares enough about the Pokémon of the future to save them from being erased when they're supposed to be erased, why doesn't Arceus just... stop Darkrai? The ending clearly portrays Arceus as clearly biased so it makes no sense for him to not do anything until then."
EoS is filled to the brim with similar writing, pacing and tonal issues. You want a well-written PMD game? Check Gates to Infinity (if you can put up with the okay-ish gameplay).
