They're so fucking boring. The Pokemon all suck and the overreliance on TMs feels like shit. The region is bland and unmemorable. Most types are trash and some only have one fucking Pokemon line (Dragon, Ghost). Why did boomers shit their pants overe this game?

Dragon is kinda stupid in Gen 1 in that it's weak to itself (which is a cool concept actually) but then the only Dragon move in the gen has a fixed amount of damage so you don't actually see that in action

Wrong. They are very fun. Upon reaching Mt Moon you are already given a Moon Stone so you could have Clefable, Wigglytuff, or a Nido. The game opens up a lot past Misty. Its nonlinear structure allows you to go pretty much everywhere and fill the dex as you please. Movesets aren't too good but whatever, the oppenent's movesets are bad too, just use TMs.

Imagine you've never even played a turn based RPG before, and you're used to super simple games like Tetris on the GB. Also at the time using a link cable was cool as fuck. I traded with kids around the neighborhood and got all the trade evolutions the legit way and completed the pokedex. I basically consider my pokemon experience complete after that point.

I also had this kino setup at home with this Super Gameboy adapter for the SNES which allowed me to play Red on the TV and not needing a million batteries.
