There’s 4 in the game, every regional of a returning Pokémon is in the code, there’s potentially more in the DLC, and the only reason they were dialed back is because there was already another one-time gimmick that redesigns old Pokémon as well as convergents which are functionally regionals that are too farfetch’d to be lore friendly.
Megafags are fucking delulu if they think they’re somehow a “core feature” just because they showed up in Gen 7 (which was before they ever cut gimmicks) and then spin-offs (which is because they’re easy to implement since they’re a simple power up mode.
Hell, I do think Megas are more likely to come back than any other gimmick, but it’s still a gimmick and it’s consequences have been disastrous for both the series and individual Pokémon.
