I am just a huge fan of gen 6 Pokémon. With Scarlet and Violet flopping with bad graphics and animations, slashed Dex and a horrid battle mechanic, I find myself drawn to this more and more as time goes on. Gameplay: What can I say about the gameplay? It's Pokémon. You walk around, get into fights that seem to happen when your entire team is on life support and put of healing items and work on getting all 8 badges to fight the league. But there are additions. Mega Evolution shatters the regular sedate battles. By giving a stone to certain species of Pokémon, you boost them for one battle with better stats. If you think this is broken, then here's a shock. You can only mega evolve one Pokémon per battle. If your current mega faints or you switch to a different one, you can't mega any other Pokémon to keep it balanced. This works suprisingly well to keep the battles exciting. Animations and Visuals: I'm not gonna say that there are perfect animations in this game. There are effects that are used rather than motion. But the animations and visuals are much cleaner. And this is on the 3DS, a much less powerful console than the Switch. There are moments when the game goes from a top-down view to a fixed, isometric view to take in the spectical, such as Route 7 after the Day Care being able to see the lake and Battle Maison. There are flaws in animations though. Skarmory, due to the new Sky Battles, just hovers. But in other cases, such as Charizard, look more imposing. And some look more accurate to their Dex entry. Take Spoink for instance. If it stops bouncing, it dies. In all games prior, it was static, possibly dead. But now it's constantly bouncing, alive and energetic. Story: The story of this game is awesome. It builds upon the lore with an ancient superweapon that ended a war. It's more heavy and dark. Team Flare is the last evil team that has threatened the way of life for everyone. It's emotional, making the player more connected.
