They stopped selling the things and Game Freak locked them to post game, something only the dedicated see through (90%of all players fail to finish a video game, as an industry-wide trend). They were replaced as gimmick with Z-moves in the anime, as well as turning them from Saiyans only a Saiyan could hope to match, to routinely jobbing to normal 'mons. Then used as part of a gimmick extravaganza in Journeys. Handle it, ya simpleton.

Which makes no sense to me. Why even buy a game if you're not going to finish it?

I understand not finishing some games, but if you're not finishing ANY of your games, then gaming is the wrong hobby for you. You might as well just stick to movies at that point.

I don't think it's even really consistent as to what the dynamax/gigantamax forms even are to begin with. In interviews they've implied it's like an energy projection and the normal sized pokemon is inside, but the game seems to imply that it's the actual pokemon itself that grows giant.
Thoroughly retarded either way, good riddance.

The game itself says the Pokemon warps space around itself to look bigger.

Hell, Megas outlived z-moves. Like the other anon said, it was only in SWSH with Gmax that Game Freak thought they could replace it.

It's the Gigantamax Factor within their genome being expressed through Dynamaxing. Said Factor is obtained through mutations, either from Galar Particles or Max Mushrooms. Pikachu, Kantonian Meowth, and Eevee that obtain the Gigantamax Factor can no longer evolve and are thus considered fully evolved.

Gigantamax/Dynamax is just Gamefreak referencing Ultraman (Gigamax Machamp in particular is a blatant reference, even has the color of his "middle" head spike divided in half like the original Ultraman suit) and in Ultraman a similar concept of energy constructs made to look big is part of the lore, so it's no surprise GF stole that too.

GameFreak realized that it's be better if Dynamax was exclusive to certain Pokemon, so the Double HP with high BP moves with guaranteed effects and bunch of bullshit immunities mechanic might be balanced.
They then said "what this would actually make Dynamax a good mechanic. Let's have it so all Pokemon can Dynamax and have the exclusive ones we designed get special effects" because GameFreak is intentially trying to sabotage this series.

Regional gimmicks exist to both keep the game fresh, and sell toys. Dynamax and terastalize are great gimmicks from a battle balance standpoint, but terrible for selling toys, because the pokemon stays the same. Gigantimax meant they could have their battle gimmick AND have a new toy to sell.

This is more or less how I thought of Dynamax and Gigantimax with the descriptions provided by the games. Enormous energy armour constructs/projections. Gigantimax might differ due to certain species witnessing a higher compatibility with the Galar Particles/Eternatus' influence? Unique projections, greater powers. G-Max Intelleon, Toxtricity, and Urshifu all demonstrate this proposition well, IMO.

The fact all Pokemon can Dynamax is precisely why it's a good mechanic. You aren't pigeonholed into using a handful of Pokemon on your team, and you have flexibility on which one you Dynamax so you aren't forced to always bring your max mon into bad matchups.
