Somewhat Unrelated bug this led me to look up Mauville on Bulbapedia and I ended up discovering that the most populated city in the games is Nimbasa with over 230. And yes, even if you subtract the extra NPCs who appear in Big and Small Court (which leaves you with 150) it still beats out the seemingly much larger Castelia, whose peak population is 137

Lumiose in XY is the populated though according to Bulbapedia with 416. I barely remember XY, but I'm surprised Game Freak gave enough of a shit to give dialogue to 400 NPCs in that clusterfuck of a city

They could've made it something interesting, a technological powerhouse with a bit of futurism, I can understand wanting something different but the mall is definitely weird. Feels like they were afraid to shift the size of the map so built vertically.

there's actually a lot of housing developments that have shopping centers integrated into them. It's pretty based design imo. Don't have to go anywhere for a quick snack run, literally just walk a few feet.

They retconned the failed New Mauville in ORAS. They actually rebuilt Mauville into the high powered tech city they intended. GF's laziness still shines in spite of lore because apparently futuristic city just translates to mall.
