The root cause is obviously the outdated model of requiring new games to be released before merchandise/etc can be made, but this could easily be avoided if the IP holders had an iota of artistic pride in their work. But they don't so it's vidya McDonald's

At least with the TCG it's a mass production of jpegs and cardboard and the anime is just a series of drawings where a Pokémon loses (or multiple Pokémon in a row) in a bullshit fashion. With the games there's coding, level design, Q&A testing (which is non-existent), modeling, animation rigging, and other shit.

- Temporarily available paid DLC single Pokemon (Mainly Mew, Walking Wake, Iron Leaves, and Zarude)
- Nerfing Aegislash when it was already too low in the HP department
- Removing Megas claiming balance issues but then introducing fucking Calyrex
- Removing Z-moves claiming balance issues but then introducing Max Moves which are a hell of a ton stronger

Those JRPGs have the game balanced around shared EXP and most of them feature a static party with members joining at certain points in the game.
In Pokémon, you have a wide array of options and opportunities to how your build your party; among those options should be how you handle the EXP you gain.
