The compfag's mentality is pretty straightfoward and clear, there aren't really any mental gymnastics going on.
Meanwhile people who love shiny pokemon admittedly have some weird mentalities in my opinion:
>it's rare so that makes it better!!>it's my "bromon" even though it was decided by random chance and I felt obligated to take it, so in the end it wasn't really my choice>forming emotional attachments to pokemon is totally sane btw>it's hue shifted pixels are really heckin' important!!Not saying if you like shinies that you are like this. My point is just that it's very easy to strawman this compared to the soulless compfag whose thoughts are simpler, so the whole "mental gymnastics" angle is stupid.
