I was in high school when DP first came out and I distinctly remember being taken aback by how hard Mars was. Roark was EZPZ, yet another rock gym that you can take down with any of the starters (I chose Piplup), but Mars for some reason took me like 5+ tries, and I remember needing to grind up a Geodude. I think Toxic + the constant flinching is what got me, plus, Purugly is pretty tough at that point.
