They made Meows with current Protean in mind so it makes since that Overgrow Flower Trick is a passable, albeit sometimes better option. At least Cinderflop has the excuse of being a monotype so you can choose when to change from Fire.

Gren's whole schtick was changing over & over again until it went down so of course it won't stay up there if it can't to that anymore.

Smogon doesn't arbitrarily decide what tier a Pokemon goes to. They start every new Pokemon that isn't a box legendary in OU, with the latter going into Ubers and tested in OU if it's deemed as possibly being okay in the tier.

Ceaseless Edge alone will make Samurott-H OU. You set up a full layer of spikes simply by attacking. Ash-Greninja was top tier Gen 7 because it had the option to use Spikes on switches. This thing literally sets them up with a move that has the same BP as Knock Off and gets the same boost with Sharpness, then also threatens the most common Hazard removers with Water STAB.

High usage =/= centralizing. Great Tusk, like Lando, has no recovery, gets worn down easily over repeated usage, and is particularly weak to special attacks. Gholdengo can OHKO it if it doesn't have any SpD or HP investment.

That's not a specific counter, that's just a regular ass Pokemon. You can blow up Great Tusk quite easily with just powerful special attacks let alone Water/Grass/Ice/Fairy/Psychic type attacks.

60% is hardly overcentralizing. If Komala was the only Pokemon in the game with a hazard removal move, it'd see about that much usage in OU despite Komala being a shitmon. Great Tusk is just the best, most versatile Pokemon with an outright necessary niche thanks to the likes of Glimmora and Garchomp.

Greninja suffered from the nerf because it really doesn’t hit as hard as the other two. Protean carried Greninja initially because it could cover for its two big drawbacks (frail with only “ok” offenses) by being able to become any type depending on the situation. Without this, it’s basically just Inteleon with a better movepool.

It has no reliable recovery and isn't immune to entry hazards and on a stall team that is disastrous for something as important for momentum as the spinner. You can try and wish pass to it but that's super telegraphed and hard to do with something as passive as Amolamola (the only good wisher). Defensively ev'ing it also means you don't even solidly check every Nego which is it's job in the first place so you can get spinblocked at least a few times before it becomes a solid check after chip. You run Talonflame of all things as your hazard remover since it threatens Nego better, punishes u-turns and physical attackers in general, and has actual recovery.

It's not bad, but it only really fits on Psyspam, which has waned in popularity over the past month. Probably an overdue drop frankly, there's no reason it should have been so much more used than Indeedee and Polteageist beyond already being OU.
