Even if you don't enjoy the plot, surely this is the movie where the art style peaked? Gorgeous hand drawn work and beautiful colours

I grew up with this movie, I used to love it, but I don't like it anymore. The movies with Latios/Latias, Darkrai, Zeraora, and even Zarude are some of my favorites (from Pokemon movies).

The last Pokemon movie they really gave a shit making was Pokemon 4ever. I think the 5th movie was the last time it was shown in theaters in America, after that the animation quality started looking noticably worse. Compare Heroes to Jirachi Wishmaker and its a noticable drop in quality and probably also budget.

Its clear the movie series was really meant to be a trilogy and end at the third film anyways. The movies were never cinematic masterpieces, but there was some real soul and passion put into them all the same. Takeshi Shudo was the glue holding the anime together. The anime stopped being relevant in the west after gen 4. Arguably it already was irrelevant in the west after Gen 3.

The moment 4Kids was let go from doing the anime was the death of it. Veronica Taylor voiced Ash for what, 6 years or so in the US, and you'll still see people at conventions lining up to see her wrinkly GILF asshole. There's a reason for it. The quality was never the same despite how much shit 4Kids gets.
