Heard people saying it was made out of the ancient weapon in XY. What purpose do you think this had? To protect or to attack? Maybe against some dragon or dark type?

It says it was a carbink which underwent a sudden transformation. Which is strange considering carbink can't evolve into Diancie.
But maybe there's some relation between Diancie and Magearna.

Don't they have just as much lore as most other legendaries? Some dex entries and maybe an ingame npc will have a line or two. Lots of them have movies too.

Always got the impression that Magearna was designed for the hypothetical Kalos sequel/Z version but got bumped when the devs moved on to Gen 7. Anyway, I really like the idea that Guzzlord is actually an alternate version of Zygarde transformed by pollution.

But there's few in game thing, they just gift them to you through events and that's it. Old events at least had you go to a location and solve some puzzle which gave them depth.

I don't know what that has to do with the lore. The first events weren't even locations and when they finally did add spots for them they were just rocks in the middle of the ocean.

James Turner gave some cheeky response to a question about the Guzzlord-Zygarde connection, so whether or not the entire dev team was in on it, he definitely designed Guzzlord with Zygarde in mind. He’s also the one who brought up how designers could now choose their own shinies for their mons.
