Power of Us in 2018 was the last one I recall being promoted in the US, so I went to see it. Before that, the last Pokemon movie that I was aware of being released in the US and went to watch was the first BW movie.

I would argue too that Mario is more accessible. Anyone can follow the story because it's as simplistic as your average mainline Mario game. I think the Mario movie is closer in look and feel to a standard Disney/Pixar/Illumination animated outing (and thus draws that audience, on top of the Nintendo audience) than any Pokemon movie. Mario has the kind of casual, cross-generational appeal that pulls in a wide-range of demographics, from kids to teens to adults, to men and women. Idk really how to explain it, but Mario just has a bigger draw and appeal, despite the Pokemon IP being up there with it.

A TINY handful of them have had small limited theatrical releases in one single western country, and a number of them have had proper releases in Korea. The three first ones were the only ones to get actual proper global releases.

They're all blockbuster summer movies in Japan, which is why they were annual for so long.

My dream Pokemon movie would be a fully live action film given the Steven Spielberg treatment complete with a John Williams soundtrack and focus way more on the fantasy and wonder of the Pokemon world instead of some comedic plot around a talking Pikachu Detective.

To echo what a lot of others said, Avengers Endgame cannibalized a lot of movies around it. Detective Pikachu and Godzilla King of the Monsters represented massive franchises but they both released so quickly after one another. Endgame won out and the other two suffered for it, especially since Endgame had people going back for rewatches and tried to extend its time in theaters to beat the world record.
