Most of them just feel phoned-in, using some cheap “cool” concept (arm canons, UFO, vampire, etc) with a worse color palette and body shape, failing to capture the appeal of the original mon outside of some basic callbacks to theming. Sucks that these worse designs were essentially designed (from a gameplay perspective) to replace some of my old favorites instead of just making the old mon better.
I know there’s a lot of seething about modern cross-evos, but I think they’ve done a much better job of capturing the appeal of the old pokemon.
