Having played Johto/Gen 2, coming back to Kanto was a nice touch but you could easily see how superior the Johto region was

frlg did a bad job of interpreting the abstract sprites of the original game and lgpe kanto is based on frlg kanto

hgss has the best version of kanto simply because the port city isn't landlocked and the bridges aren't all built on top of dirt

This. For me the tweaks it made to the area greatly improved on the area as any sequel should and yet I still prefer Johto over Kanto.

Articuno is bottom left, to the left of Cinnabar.
Mewtwo is in the bottom right probably because of all the free space in that corner of the map; easier to make it big and prominent without it covering up anything (same thing with the legendary birds).
Comfy art btw, OP. I like it. Definitely hits me in the feels.
