I don't see why there's a need for new hardware right now. It's not like what was unacceptable for a modern game in 2019 is that much different in 2023 anyways. They'd be fools to release a new system with barely any new exclusives and no install base.

Games will eventually be "switch 2+ only", there's no way around that, but a console that fills both home and handheld is too strong to go back to doing both separately.

How would having more power help the Switch?
The games on it have been great regardless of how many polygons are crammed into them.
And the games on it have been shit regardless of them not looking photorealistic.

There isn't a timeline where Scarlet and Violet are released and not fairly disappointing because of bugs and poor game design.
Because its issues weren't related to the Switch not being strong, but GF not being good devs.

Those were PS3 games; which came out in 2006. There are people younger than that in this thread right now, guaranteed.
The PS3 had fucking 512 MB of RAM, the Switch has 4GB.

To not settle for "good enough". To expect better from the multi-billion dollar company that's content on coasting off of their 6+ year old console that's had no meaningful revisions or successors in that span of time. The longer that span of time gets, the more garbage like cloud versions of games from third parties ends up on the Switch because it's objectively incapable of running many of the multi-platform games meant for other systems and PC.

Maybe, but the PS2 had the advantage of being very easily hacked. From what I've seen new Switch models aren't easy to hack as they were on release.
