A game like this should really provide more freedom in how you explore, as well. Specific ride pokemon are a retarded way to gate access to areas; you have access to a large (but reasonable) roster of pokemon who could fulfill the same roles. Some concepts (like smashing large rocks) could have been better implemented, offering more reward than just “huh, that’s neat”.
PLA isn’t trash, but it’s a long way from great.
