>dark souls has plenty of ripoffs and soulslikes, most of which are generally praised
>metroid/castlevania have an entire genre of ripoffs called castlevanias, and even those that haven't probably surpassed the origins in sales like hollow knight are still very well received
>the exact same thing has happened with rogue-likes, with many roguelikes even branching off to form spiritual successors of their own that are also well received
>in general most people like clones of their favorite franchises because it just gives them more of the same thing they like

>someone makes a pokemon ripoff or pokemonlike
>/vp/ and other communities go absolutely apeshit, hate them and say its now le bad to be ripping off, laugh at these game's sales (even though many do perfectly fine in their own right) and say they should've never tried being a 'pokemon killer' (when most of them don't), hate them for both either being "too much like pokemon" or "not enough like pokemon" depending on the person, playing these games is seen as anathema in pokemon communities
What causes this dissonance?
