>>53794638I love HGSS. A lot of the soul from GSC in my opinion comes from how they pushed the limitations of the hardware in brilliant ways. The colors they used and the chords/melodies that the music utilizes are lovely. I really like how the motifs in the Kanto tracks are recontextualized with colorful chords. It feels like a comfy adventure game and I would've been happy if the series ended with Crystal.
HGSS is like they took a really good foundation that didn't need updating and made is adjacently good. It's not the same thing, but it adds a lot of comfy unnecessary things like following interactable mons that give you golden leaves, a battle frontier, a photographer that takes pictures of you with your bros, a hot girl who follows you around the region with her marill, and tons of other cool shit. I wish I still had the Lugia statue I got with Soul Silver and my Pokewalker.
Both GSC and HGSS are very good sets of games. There is something about the Gameboy Color that is magical, its why I enjoy playing homebrew GBC games. I hope Quarantine Crystal isn't abandonware because if the full game gets finished it'd be pure kino. Vanilla Crystal is good on it's own but I've played it to death. I wanna try Coral when it's finished, I don't want to spoil myself on it with the 3 gym demo
