I had Silver as my first game when I was 6. Did not know how to deal with Falkner spamming Mud Slap on my Cyndaquil, so I lost to him a fair few times.

Can confirm. I was a dumb kid, and I though the game played in anime rules.
Talk about a hard wake up call. Problem is it took me like 10 attempts and one crying session later to start thinking.
I guess I needed that. Learning helps to be less dumb. And this was "change your team, dumbass".

If you complete Black 2, you can unlock challenge mode in White 2. If you played White 2 first, you can unlock easy mode in Black 2.

Exactly. Unless you want to unlock easy mode for a younger sibling who isn't very good at Pokemon, it's pointless. I didn't do my research before buying the game and made a couple stupid decisions. After playing Black, I thought I would be clever and get White 2 so as to have one black version and one white version. Now I have two Reshirams. And now that I've played through White 2 and now obtained Black 2, I need to beat Black 2 in order to unlock challenge mode, transfer it to White 2 and replay that.
It's alright though, I want to do another full playthrough of gen 5 anyway.

Easy mode can actually be harder than normal due to reduced exp gains, at least for speedruns.

That makes a different category for a speedrun since it has different conditions. Also, the levels of everything up through the endgame are all reduced, so while you get less exp, you don't need as much exp to win. So it's likely going to be easier to speedrun.

Pokémon Black 2 is designed for battle loving players, so you get the a challenge if you play White 2 after.

Pokémon White 2 is designed for Pokédex completion players, so you get an easy run through the story of Black 2 after playing White 2.

They really weren't. Challenge mode being locked after beating the main game is very common, probably moreso than having all difficulty modes available from the start. The key system also isn't an issue if you have friends.
The bigger issue is that the challenge mode itself is terrible

Challenge mode is usually unlocked aside from all other difficulties.
So a game would have easy, normal and hard available from the start, but for Super Hard or Challenge or whatever you'd need to beat it once on hard.
