IVs are post-game metagaming, if you want to make the literal best versions of your favorite 'mons. And since IV breeding requires hatching a lot of eggs, I generally Masuda shiny hunt simultaneously. I find this to be busywork, but the results to be rewarding.
Competitive battles aren't necessary, since most people can't even complete their game's battle facilities.
Battling is still fun, but a lot of people seem to give up once they realize I run four toxic stallers. It's my hate letter to the Pokemon community. And I have so many wins via forfeits.
