Retard anon... Let me ease your suffering by enlightening you.
Pokemon data has been split into two. Think of them as two .txt files, both with the PID and SID as the name.
The main file contains:
>PID
>SID
>Nickname
>OT
>Species
>IVs
>Bottlecap status
>Ability
>Nature
>EVs
>Mint status
The second txt has
>moveset
>Grit status for PLA

It's that simple.
Transfer moves are gone, as a pokemon will only ever have one of that first files, the second is unique and created when transfered to a relevant game.

For example:
>12235-12344-Pikachu.txt
>12235-12344-Pikachu-SwSh.txt
>12235-12344-Pikachu-PLA.txt
>12235-12344-Pikachu-BDSP.txt
And when you move that Pikachu to SV:
>12235-12344-Pikachu-SV.txt is made.

Oh. And one unfortunate side effect of this is that egg moves get wipes as soon as your mon leaves SwSh, the last game to retain previous gen data.
Thankfully you can just Mirror Herb them back on... But that's really a fix for a problem they created in the first place.

How will this interact with the Home move relearning process? The release is stating that anything it's learned can be relearned, so is Home cross referencing the other secondary txt files to give it a list of compatible moves (assuming the move exists in the game its transferring to, like with Hidden Power, for example)

The press release seems vague to me, as if it MIGHT just be pulling from learnsets for the respective games, but I'm hoping this isnt the case.

This is only a result of Scald not being a TM. The only Pokemon that actually learn Scald by level up are Volcanion and the Simipour line. The former still learns it, and the latter isnt present in the game.

While this is absolutely possible (and the source of my concern), its worth noting that this would make the feature basically pointless for SV and PLA, since you can just.. do that anyway in game.

They're letting you remember moves in Home now, so they'll likely be able to have you forget moves as well. This will be important if forgetting them will be mandatory for transferring some Pokemon into SV from Home whose moves are now illegal, like pretty much anything with Scald.

The movesets wipe automatically when transferring. The screenshots shown indicate that the Move relearning will happen THROUGH Home, but while that Pokemon is in a respective game, so that shouldn't be a factor.

The question boils down to what the scope of the move relearning captures. Given that it says it starts with Gen 8 onwards, it COULD be that its literally only anything that it learns in Gen 8-- but because of the way Home saves files (explained above), transfer moves from pre-Gen 8 will still be registered to that Pokemon for SwSh. So its possible that Knock Off Weaviles are still on the table. This is supported by some technically illegal moves (like Expanding Force Hatterene) being registered as legit in SV, aka, legal.

Conversely, it COULD be that it's only the Pokemon's learnset in the respective games its currently in, so a Weavile transferred to SV can learn anything a Weavile can learn via level up, but that's a pretty pointless feature as move relearning is already free in all Gen 8 games. But this is also Gamefreak we're talking about here.

It just doesn't make sense for them to point out "GEN 8 AND ONWARDS" when we could already make them relearn moves now in S/V. This has to include moves that weren't available to certain mons at the start of S/V. I don't think Knock Off Weavile is going to be a thing since Pt, HGSS, BW2, ORAS, or USUM was the only way to get one, I think that's why they specifically said Gen 8. But like you said, depends on the scope, we'll just have to wait till next week.

Assuming we're in the Knock Off Weavile scenario, Psycho Boost isn't in SwSh or SV, but it's in BDSP. Technically, it should be able to relearn Psycho Boost through Home when transferring into BDSP. But this begs the question, is a txt file created for old gen pokemon as well? Or only ones in SwSh? I really dont know.

Yeah I mean, I'm not privy to the exact ways that the file are handled, so I'm really just trying to reason it out. IF a Weavile with Knock Off coming from older gens into SwSh gets its SwSh txt file updated with that Knock Off (which seems to be the case, as Home DOES preserve that moveset with Knock Off between games even now between SwSh and transferring with PLA), then it could be reasoned that old gen exclusive moves count under the "SwSh" txt learned moveset umbrella (so long as they have SwSh data ofc). I think anything transferred in thats in SV, but wasnt in SwSh is probably not safe though (Muk for example).

Wish we could get our hands on this shit and test it so I can either stop worrying or just be pissed and learned to accept it.

One of the sets I'm genuinely crossing my fingers for, is Scyther with Dual Wingbeat, CC, and maybe Roost. Not going to be tearing up OU or anything, but it'll finally be a legit usable Scyther set, since CC was the last move it really needed to have strong coverage and damage output. We can thank PLA for that.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the moves. In VGC up to gen 5 it was basically a free for all for what moves you could use, if it was obtainable in some way you could use it. Then in the 3ds games VGC required the native mark which essentially locked them into using moves available in the current gen. Now I think with the Switch era I think its gonna be basically "any move you can obtain on Switch games will be fair game". So similar to the old VGC up to gen 5, it rewards those who own all these games to get moves from and transfer back and forth.

This is out of battle and in it's party sprite. Urshifu's design normally only changes which flaps are up or down depending on its form, but its out-of-battle model has them mixed. This was the case in SwSh as well.

In battle it retains its animations and whatnot.

Yeah I think the only implication would be at team preview. I didnt play SwSh competitively though, so this should've been the same case in SwSh (unless it was restricted for whatever reason), and iirc Smogon just uses their different sprites anyway.. might be wrong on those points though.

I doubt they'll do this. The reason they did the "current gen only" Pokemon was specifically to make the playing field more level and deter injecting. The fact that you couldn't even use a pre-gen Pokemon, even with a legal moveset, without the battle ready mark shows how much they want VGC to be like a seasonal TCG. You use the current season's cards only; no need to worry about or balance around legacy.

I dont have an image, but the only thing that changes between forms are its pose, the position of its headband, and the flaps on its head and knees. With Rapid, the flaps are all down with the headband flowing forward over its shoulders, Single has them all up headband included.

The neutral pose has flaps in a more mid-way position and the headband in a neutral, let-down position at its back.

Its a minor thing but I hate the idea of seeing pp up usage being erased. Its not the end of the world but when you use anything on your pokes like vitamins, mints, bottle caps etc all of it should move forward. Pp up are in a weird spot due to being attached to moves.

Yeah, thisll work. Itll be a Strange Ball in PLA ofc, but when transferred back itll retain its original ball type.

Most likely will get changed to a Strange Ball. There's a slim chance that this update will make it so SV keeps the Hisuian balls, but as is theyre not in the code, so its unlikely.

You honestly can't even call that even similar to dexcut, because the mons are at least in the game data. There was just no way to get everything without hacking in the beginning of the gen, but by the end you could get all 300 whatever in ruby/sapphire

With dexcut, even if a game has the respective mon (like with PLA having Gligar) if it's not in SWSH it can't be transferred

PLA mons have size metrics, value 0-255 in the same way SV mons do. Now, their actual model scaling is different, the biggest PLA mons are always bigger than the biggest SV mons. Games are inconsistent with this, breaking news. But they should at least carry over to whatever their respective metric is. Alpha pokemon wont be as big of course, but they'll have their own mark. As far as mons from other games, I suspect they'll all just be set at exactly average.

They were always the same design, only changes the fighting style which makes the type different

There was one notable player that took advantage of this qyite epicly. He had 5 water mons on its team plus Urshifu. People would assume he was water monotype only to get raped by dark type instead. By design you cannot know Urshifu's type from team preview, since the sprite is the same.
This guy won a major tournament in Spain with this strat.
Also Seaking was one of his mons

So far gen 7 or older have never been given any assigned sizes so they could all come in on 0.0.0 if so make sure to grab your tiniest mark for all Pokemon prior to gen 7 transfer.
Any other games should work the same as they do now.
SwSh/BDSP don't have Scale so again if none is set you can get the tiniest mark on all your Pokemon however they will have height and weight from those games.
Ideally for Pokemon in gen 7 or lower they should make it set 127 across the board but im not putting any hope of them coming in at anything but 0

They're not delaying it because of that, they're stalling the release because they want to avoid the catastrophic situation where all HOME users Pokémon get wipe out, that would open then to legal troubles
I'm pretty sure they would rather cancel Gen 9 support than to get sued by a bunch of angry subscribers
