This is Hey You, Pikachu! for N64. It sold 1,830,000 copies across Japan and the U.S. Despite never releasing outside those two countries, it somehow managed to become the 28th best selling game on the platform outselling games such as:>Kirby 64 (1,770,000) >Cruis'n USA (1,720,000) >Turok (1,500,000) >Mario Golf (1,470,000) >Turok 2 (1,400,000) >Paper Mario (1,370,000) >Jet Force Gemini (1,160,000) >Pilotwings 64 (1,120,000) >F-Zero X (1,100,000) >Bomberman 64 (1,000,000) All that, for a game that doesn't even feature "Pokémon" in the title. It's proof that having Pikachu was all you needed to make a game successful during Pokémania. Because of this, I propose we start calling it "Pikamania" instead. Discuss.

>>53837184 As popular of a Pokemon as Pikachu was, and is, Pikachu alone can't carry the brand. Pokemon Yellow had Pikachu on the cover art and had Pikachu following you around, and yet it sold less than Red and Blue. If it was really "Pikamania" and not "Pokemania", then Yellow would've crushed Red/Blue in sales despite it being the third version for its gen. Rewatch the Pokemon merch commercials from the 90s and you'll see that it's not just Pikachu in the commercials and on the merch; the other Pokemon played a big part in the craze, too, with people wanting to catch them all - not just Pikachu.

>>53837184 I lost the mic and couldn't play the "game" anymore, but I didn't really care because it wasn't very good anyway.

>>53839127 ...You know you could just plug any old PC mic into the voice box thingy, right? It was a standard monaural 3.5mm mic jack.

>>53837184 I always wanted this, but I was cursed with being Bri'ish. I guess I could emulate it. Is it better or worse than Channel?

>>53842444 Way more fun than Channel, which was just 'Pikachu wants to watch the same 1/2 hour short nonstop.'
There are cool locations with multiple minigames/tasks and you can actually walk around and do things (through Pikachu). Just playing in the room and garden has more content than Channel.
Protip for giving pikachu orders: tone matters a lot. Use happy intonation for yes/more and flat/low tones for when you want pikachu to stop.
Probably more frustrating and less amazing as an adult, but it was crazy interactive and immersive when I was 7. I really liked cooking with Bulbasaur and fishing to see if the Lapras location would show up.

>>53842899 Just talk to Pikachu like you would a dog. Though supposedly the game is designed around a child's voice and I don't know how it would handle a adult bong accent. I remember YouTubers would trash in the game because they'd speak full sentences that of course the game wouldn't be able to handle.
