It's not unrecognizable, everything that made Pokémon great is hidden between layers of shit
At its core it's still the same turn based team making monster trainer that you can complete with the aid of a friend or waste time away playing against a friend
That's Pokémon and we still get it, but the fun part has been eroded to a very harsh extent I mean recent generations have as many bugs as Gen 1 and they are far more likely to occur in normal play, the movement to 3d should have made Pokémon feel more alive but they just don't function that well especially if they walk slowly or too fast instead of a consistent pace for the player convenience, the fact that we have to engage with parasitic design like crafting or raiding for TMs is an insult after the problem was solved in Gen5, as a matter of fact not being able to ride your own Pokémon outside of the lizards and let's go is a fucking travesty on its own
Pokémon can be great, the bulk of the work is already perfected after SM with it's online peaking at XY and ORAS but everything after that has taken away so much that it's impossible to fully enjoy a Pokémon game knowing what it can be if more work was put on them, that's the sad part knowing how great these games could be
