I call him "Dean" because he inspired me to make up a ridiculous scapegoat bully "Dean Henderson" in middle school to explain why I was missing my calculator in math class one day. I had no idea his canon name was "Silver" until I came to this site.

I probably made it up to entertain myself. I likely knew that the teachers could search the name in the school roster and find out Dean wasn't real.

I used to name my rival dumb shit but nowadays replaying the older games I get tripped up by my rival's name and keep calling them by their official name, so I'm just gonna stick to naming my protagonist and Pokemon and let the rivals keep their official names.

He's my favorite character so I put much more thought into this than I'd like to admit
>Silvio: a pun on silver, "silbar" (to whistle) in Spanish from the Western movie lone wolf trope and related to sound and music like Lyra or Hibiki, obviously it's also an italian nod to Giovanni. The name itself comes from the Latin word "silva" which means jungle and fits well with his feral attitude too.

Yes that's right! Silver is such an uncreative name. I think I came up with the name "Dean" because I thought it was funny that a misbehaving kid would be named after a school staff profession who talks to kids about misbehaving. At my middle school there were "deans" who would address misbehavior. There was a joke going around that the deans would crowd around students and laugh at them when they did something bad.
