The only thing these things have in common is godawful bland lighting(which obviously does not work with a cartoon world).
This is also what kills the trainer/pokemon models fyi.
Decent lighting is one of the key things in making cartoony 3D look good, the reason why the quality of it dropped so hard is everyone started to just use a bland preset.
And I don't mean "it has to be cel shaded" type shit, you just want good contrast in anime land.
