While SwSh and SV sold extremely well, basically everything on the Switch has sold extremely well.
Both games have been received poorly and PLA while a decent game seemed to have flown under the radar pretty significantly.
Pokemon GO single-handedly revived the franchise. But a string of terrible releases can just as well drive it back down again.
If whatever Game Freak plans to release next isn't amazing, I don't know what will come of the franchise.
It's not the mid 2000s anymore, where Pokemon was one of the better game franchises on the DS and was able to live off of being a stand-out among mobile games. There are a lot of good games on the Switch and Pokemon is competing with the big boys. From developers with a lot of ambition and technical skill.
I really hope that Masuda and Tajiri and the rest of the old guard dev team recognize their position.
