Assuming BW2 did happen, what do you think Iris return episode would’ve been like? Some would argue that she’s gotten more development than any other Pokegirl but what were the writers planning to do with this character?

The BW anime ignored the absolute complete fuck out of everything BW2 did with Iris and had her receive and decline an offer to become gym leader, being told that the offer would be standing and she could always come back and accept when she felt ready.

So the plans were clearly "set her up as become gym leader" both before and after BW2 happened. The Champion nonsense was something they pulled out of their asses during PM2019 due to some autistic insistence on following the games to the letter.

Probably some boring shit like an Altaria getting it's head stuck in a cave and Ash, Goh, and Iris have to work together to rescue it and then it just flies away. JN's fanservice was pretty mediocre most of the time.
