>>53868452There's a lot of humanoid monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh because they understand that that's what the target audience likes. Notice how most humanoids are just girls in cosplay. Honestly, I prefer this as I always found people's attraction toward Gardevoir in Pokemon to be really weird. And Gardevoir is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to that sort of stuff. Whereas people being attracted to one of the many waifumons in Yu-Gi-Oh is perfectly normal imo. Hell, I've bought several cards simply cause I think the girls are cute.
To me it's not all that different from the heroic spirits in Fate. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what you're collecting, so long as you're collecting something. But Yu-Gi-Oh does offer more variety than Fate as you still fmdo get tons of pure monsters. Overall, I feel it strikes the same balance as SMT which also features a lot of humanoids that are literal "girls in cosplay."
