Maybe not at the end, but it'd be nice if he progressed beyond his obnoxiously positive "haha nice going I'll get you next time though" routine and actually reacted to his losses in some meaningful way.
Like, literally just let the characters be sad about losing, just once.

Hop is better written than Hau, he is just the Gen 6 and 7 rival but done much better by giving him more of a connection to the setting.
