It's really mind boggling the excuses BWfags come up with to explain why it sold like shit. GS was released after the GBA was announced and FRLG came out after the DS was announced. When you run out of excuses and imagined circumstances you'll finally admit BW sold like shit because it was shit.

I think by these metrics, the only non-flop main Pokemon games would be RB (I dunno how Green fits in there, honestly), every single GBA title (which all sold comparatively poorly because the GBA wasn't doing to hot, but was definitely enough to keep the franchise alive), and every 3DS title aside from USUM which came out after the fucking Switch was out. I dunno if I'd consider Emerald a success financially, even if I would consider it one of the best games in the franchise.

Correct. Next abandon the current arbitrary concept of Pokemon "generation" that keeps changing definition and breaking with each new release and accept that the only unbreakable and consistent definition for a Pokemon generation is tied to the console it was released for. Gameboy, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, Switch, we are currently in generation 6 of the Pokemon games. It hurts your programing but you will hurt every year jumping through hoops trying to use a definition that doesn't work.

I judge it based on engine. Gen 2 and 5 are borderline cases, but I know for a fact Gen 2 is so heavily rewritten that it's a whole different beast, and Gen 5 is probably similar if it's even built from Gen 4's engine in the first place. I've been saying Let's Go is a Gen 8 game since it uses the same core engine as SS (and you can import the models between them with only minor crashing when it calls for shit that doesn't exist and the normal textures don't work with the different lighting) and I imagine Legends is a similar case for SV (but I don't know for sure). Also BDSP is just fucking Unity garbage, I try to forget that it exists (and given Legends is inching ever closer to outselling it while BDSP's sales weren't even updated when fucking USUM's sales apparently were, so are consumers).

It's so fucking weird to see the all shitposting about Gen 5's sales when the reality is they weren't even 1 million units behind Gen 6 and were released at the tale end of the DS life cycle where it was easy as fuck to emulate games, shit, I remember playing BW on my computer in Japanese before it came out in the US.
