Are fossil pokemon rock because ancient times was all rock, or are they rock because they turned into fossils?

most likely the latter, otherwise past-paradox pokemon would be rock, and "ancient" pokemon like yanmega or mamoswine would be rock on top of needing ancientpower to evolve.

Either turning into a fossil made them part rock, in a way that is impossible to clone a viable specimen without the rock typing, or only rock type pokemon's DNA manage to survive long enough for we to revive them.

Neither. Only Rock-type Pokémon were able to be preserved.
There's wild fossil Pokémon in the Lucario & Mew movie that managed to survive extinction inside of the Tree of Beginning's ecosystem, and they look the same as ones revived from a fossil.

We know that, what we are discussing is if we can revive those fossils because they were part type before fossilizing, thus their DNA was better preserved. Or if the fossilization alters the typing of revived pokemon to a degree they can't be revived without the rock type

The rockier mega aerodactyl is supposedly more like the "original" creature, and kabuto is said to be found in the wild rarely, so it can be assumed that they were always rock-type.

Our best non-anime evidence for this is Relicanth, which canonically has not changed over one hundred million years which would have been the early Cretaceous by our standards. As a Water/Rock "living fossil," this most suggests ancient Pokemon had prevalent Rock typing.

People always suggest Psychic/Ice or Fairy/Ice but Electric/Ice is the way to go.

Electric-type moves that Aurorus can learn:
- Thunder Wave (level 28 as Amaura)
- Thunder (TR)

Transfer only Electric-type moves
- Charge Beam
- Magnet Rise
