Previously, its only real options for the last two moves were Ice Beam and Earth Power, because dragon stab is redundant with ice.
Now, it could customize its moveset with DD + Icicle Spear as a monoattacker or go for the great coverage of Freeze Dry + Earth Power, or even mix it up with Icicle Spear and Freeze Dry, or any number of variations. And they were all very effective.
Suddenly, what was once a mediocre subroost mon that could be easily played around was a now a bulky PP staller that also had a strong offensive presence to beat would-be checks and counters. It could dismantle entire teams on its own, even wear down Ice resists if it didn't have Earth Power. There simply wasn't any real way to reliably counter it.
