Let's be honest, if Serperior didn't have Contrary it would be the weakest link of the starters, even weaker than Meganium. Thoughts.

It would suck but it would be operated like chansey, passively. It's sub, seed, glare sets would still boast leaf storm damage, but that would only be reserved foe the likes of gastrodon and swampert. And it would have niches due to it's speed tier and technical options, however it would be like quagsire, only reached for when necessary or meta inclined. Most would see it as a burden on the team though.

Nope, Serperior before Contrary was still better than Meganium and Torterra.
And it still would have been better since it got Defog later on.

It’s unfortunate that torterra is so lukewarm in PvP. I have many fond memories of smashing the 4th Gen games with him and being in awe that he learned earthquake at the low level of 32 and getting wood hammer as early as pastoria city.

But yea, his attack and defense stats are rather disappointing and getting instagibbed by icebeam which every fukkin water or normal type can learn is not something a slow Pokémon can work with.
