>>53896258Everything in the franchise is filled with Kanto pandering. Fundamentally, it's all about execution and Kalos was awful at doing it well. Unova's Kanto pandering was extreme in a way that was soulful, whatever that means, in my opinion. Personally, I liked that you could only catch Unovan pokemon in bw1 before the post game. It added a lot of character to the games as a sort of soft reboot to the franchise. You could even see that reflected in other media like the card game. They changed how mechanics worked in the tcg to make it more similar to how the game worked in base set (removing poke-powers and bodys and moving to abilities that work much more similarly to how pokemon powers worked) released mechanically identical cards to very strong power cards from gen 1 that still see play today (professor juniper -> professor oak, emboar -> fire type base blastoise, pre errata pokemon catcher -> gust of wind). They even reprinted fan favorite power cards from the fucking gen 3 remake sets (N is almost a word for word reprint of Rocket Admin, one of the most important cards printed in the game). I liked that Munna was a reference to throwaway dialog from gen 1 too. Kalos is a little too in your face with it all of the time. Unova tries it's best to be at least a little subtle, for pokemon standards that is.
