Kanto in reality, isn't at all like the real life Kanto. Sinnoh isn't like the real life counterpart. If GF still cared about this franchise, they could easily making another region based on Japan and make it more interesting if they did what they did with the first 4 generation.
Unlike everything past Gen 5 (debately, it was a problem in Gen 5 but not as pronounced), where the real life region is used to create a touristy Pokemon version of it instead of being its own thing in a fantasy world.
