Introducing the rivals/friends early instead of doing Last Minute League Friends was a great idea.

i guess it wasn't worse than journeys but it gets as much shit anyway because going from DPP anime to this softreboot mess was kinda traumatic where journeys doesn't have that problem

Only thing redeemable about Best Wishes is the fact that Ash flopped so badly that he even realized it, and went on to the next series with a greater resolve

Yes, having the main characters battle each other’s rivals was one of the highlights of this shit series. Like, Ash vs. Burgundy despite being Cilan’s rival was mostly him proving to her that he can bond with any Pokémon after she told him to release every Pokémon he had.
Emolga fighting Sawk was also her highlight.

It was WAS a shitshow series. But to be honest I have kind of soft spot for most of supporting cast. Especially kiddo that was casually racist towards Kanto and especially Pallet Town.
