This. A series of minigames that revolve around skill primarily would have been a massive improvement over "get rid of it entirely". Voltorb flip was a step in the right direction but still relied on RNG. Shame Mantine Surf only had one unique reward but it could have been another step in the right direction too.

On cart yeah it's a bit annoying, at least in FRLG and DPPT you have the VS Seeker and Amulet Coin to grind money that way instead. Why would you do that though? The DPPT theme is awesome, don't you want to listen to it while playing:

The slots in gen 1 have a weird mechanic. Basically, you WILL waste your coins if you sit down and play them for like 5 minutes unless you're extremely lucky. But after you've played for around 10 minutes, the odds will suddenly shoot WAY up and you'll get a match on nearly every spin. So basically if you stand in front of a machine and mash A long enough, you'll almost always turn a profit. I've got a shitty N64 controller with rapid fire, so I'd just enable it and walk away.

When that does happen it's either an incredibly low chance or it's something you yourself did for some reason. And the reels on the slots are 100% doable if you watch them with your eyes.
