Yeah, updating the wall would be ideal. Right now it's giving off elementary classroom vibes. Though, I do understand that this is a workspace and not your home.
Honestly, I think just a coat of paint would go a long way to making the space feel fresh and not so sterile. And would be an inexpensive way to elevate the space beyond what new furniture could do. The white walls with the large white bricks, in combination with the white shelves (that have no backs), is really the big thing. It's similar to how it would feel if this was in your home, like you just clicked "buy now" and plopped it in your space. No uniqueness. No design or intentionality.
