Why did they do this? I transferred my Breloom that I bred back in gen VI to Scarlet and now he's pretty much useless. He can never learn spore even though he's always known it. SwoShi also had a lot of changes to learn sets, but it managed to integrate them a lot more smoothly than this. Do we blame PLA?

Because this move detector they put in to (LOL) stop cheating is so fucking half assed that it doesn't factor event moves, special gen exclusive moves, or pre evo moves.

All this garbage just to stop little jimmy from running a Pikachu with Hydro Pump, even though without these detectors he would've been thrown out of any IRL tournament without the need to fuck over customers.

are egg and prevo only moves still a thing? I dont even use tms anymore. I just use the moves available in the move menu or I use showdown and it has all my moves I could want

I shiny hunted a Shroomish in Alpha Sapphire and thankfully didn’t evolve it knowing this happens, so I have to keep it as a Shroomish until I eventually transfer it.

This is the fault of them continuing to keep Spore as a move that can only be learned if you don't evolve Shroomish until late, which is a cool idea imo but it now causes this issue. The fix is making Spore a breeding move for Breloom, that way the Shroomish method still works and Breloom isn't locked out of the move.

This is 100% the reason they now "have¥ to butcher every Pokémon's move sets when they are put through Home.

Yes and yes. However, if a Pokemon has an empty move slot and holds a mirror herb, then when you take that Pokemon on a picnic with another Pokemon that knows one of the first's egg moves, it will automatically learn it.

Pre-evo moves are the tricky one. Spore is still a pre-evo move for Breloom. The game records all the moves a Pokemon has ever known, and will let you use the move relearner with those. However, transferring in a Breloom from Home requires you to reset its moveset, meaning it loses access to Spore and the game records it as never having learned Spore, thus locking out transferred Breloom from ever learning Spore.

This is a stupid decision because Breloom both in Tera raids and the one in WPA3 come with Spore already.
As for moves being replaced presumably it’s to avoid uncompetitive bullshit like Fissure No Guard Machamp and Pokémon that can only learn moves in certain games for balance (e.g. Lapras with Solar Beam in LGPE but nowhere else).

The funny thing is is that this was fixed in BDSP, where Breloom had it as a level 1 reminder move, and they fucked it up in SV. Obviously things are different in SV reminder-wise, but they could just change it so that it learns it at level 100 or whatever
