Because majority were dumb kids, rewatched Indigo not too long ago and this was totally fucking stupid. Not only because Zard ingores the logic of any pokemon obeys at 8 badges, but also Ash had so many better fucking Pokemon in reserve and it made no sense that he lost to a team of.

It was a lame way to end the League, but Ash shouldn't have even made it that far in the first place. He didn't earn over half of his badges and he only made it past the qualifiers because of Pokemon that he had completely neglected.
Pokemon that just happened to be extremely strong naturally, despite his total lack of experience with them.
Muk didn't win because of Ash. Ash won because of Muk.
The King didn't win because of Ash. Ash won because of The King.

Ash bringing Squirtle for the final fight in the league is actually kinda funny, it was the least capable mon he had at the time.
