My last shiny was Scyther and the Growlithe hunt is not going well, I thought I would have completed a phase by now. Thanks for asking.

Up to luck. With my Platinum, it only took me a day to get shiny Dialga and Giratina. Took me a good while to get a shiny Ho-oh in HeartGold.

I tend to reset for a decent Number, if that’s what you’re getting at?

Blessed thread, everyone hunting 2D Gens. Got pic related on my third phase recently, then a Zigzagoon the next day.
Incredibly lucky as all three phases came in 5,400 resets and the Zigzagoon came in just over 600 encounters.

The only issue is the same seed generates each time you start the game, this means the same frames will always be shiny.
Huge pain in the ass if you’re soft resetting but not an issue for random encounters, to avoid “rng duplicates” you can even manually reset your seed in emerald.

Same way you hunt in Emerald with a working battery. Regardless of battery status Emerald always generates the same random numbers in sequence from the time you turn on the game. The same is true for RS with a dead battery but RS with a working battery generates random numbers differently each time like they are supposed to. Seeing people repeating the myth that you can't hunt in Emerald, even people who know how the RNG works, is bizarre. For all intents and purposes random encounters work normally. For soft resets just don't get the same timing and if you're human you likely wont hit the same frame because there are 60 of them every second. Yes, it's not ideal and it's understandable not to want to waste precious seconds trying to get different timings. If you're SRing while distracted by something else I think it's fine. What some people do is use the banner with the location name to get different timing. I got my Rayquaza in Ruby with a dead battery.

Pretty easy in 5 desu, you just have an action replay code active to remove the lock and you use an “always shiny” action reply code to test if it works.
If the game crashes when encountering the target the lock isn’t working, if it’s successfully shiny it is
