Doesn't it feel like the time period between the 2nd and 4th gym badge is always the most tedious part in every pokemon game? (aside from maybe the tutorial at the beginning)

The tutorial to first gym is easily the worst part of every single Pokemon game. The very beginning of nearly every other game is also the worst but for Pokemon its especially true

Honestly every single 'catch team plasma before you can fight the gym' segment is incredibly tedious and repeats throughout the entire game

I would say gym 6-8 is usually more boring personally. Around gym 2-3 I'm still building the team and getting some evos and moves. Late in the game after the villain plot there's no more training OR story, just sweeping NPCs.

Probably due to the anime putting so much importance on the first two gym leaders despite being generic whatevers in the games that the part after that comes across as forgettable filler. Would totally blame rock tunnel for this (which happened at that segment) too.

My favourite part is usually around the 4th/5th gym. It's when your pokemon are evolving, gaining power rapidly, and you're exploring new areas with different options to add to your team.

Yeah, pre-fly kind of limits you as far getting around.
As much as I love Johto, it's probably the worst offender. Almost nothing happens between Whitney and Pryce. I also get extra tilted by the rocket shit because I always forget how to unlock the ice path.
