Sold it, I'm not a kanto lizard fan. If I ever find a whatever copy to just use for completion sake, I'll pick it up, but the one that was in it was too nice for me to just have it closed. I bought it for the display value of the backside of the file.

It's SGC. I would free it, but I really like the black surround and it still got a 9.5 which by any standards still gives it increased value. They sold an SGC 10 last month for around $2200 if I remember right, so it's not quite meme-tier.

I had the PSA 10 too, but sold it some time back when I needed the liquidity for another project and now the Chinese dude that bought it won't sell it back to me because it's got the double swirl. For the same reason, I really don't see myself spending the money on any other example of it because they don't have that.

And that's the population of the entire production, not a specific grade. Yet here, we have cards whose PSA10 pop is already more than the entire production line of entire chase sports cards, let alone the psa10 pop. Plus Nintendo/pokemon could go out of business/public favor within the next 10-20 years. They are a brand and it's ridiculous to assume that they will always be seen in the same light that they are today.
Whereas, while the MLB/NBA may not exist, baseball and basketball definitely will in some form. People will always want a Mantle card because baseball will be around in 100 years. Will people want charizard from Kanto in 20 years if pokemon is gone in 10?

This is why these numbers for pokemon cards don't make sense.

You gotta learn somehow. Japanese e-series isn't really wanted and inexpensive. If you can somehow find unlimited Japanese e-series, that would be valuable. Unlimited is far more rare than 1st editions in this instance.

Because it would be customized to each client, and I'm curious if there is even interest before I bother messing with something like Etsy. The product is: custom art of you as the trainer, custom art of the Pokemon you want, custom card with text/moves/abilities of your choice.

I’m also uneasy with the amount of subjectivity involved when it comes to 10s and black labels. The fuzziness around the edges is fine for, say, 8s and 9s, but without strict replicability, I really don’t see the value of 10s, at least not as a means of reliably gauging a card’s condition.

You don't even know what you are talking about. Graded cards are more accessible and more people grade them, but compared to 9s, 10s are still extremely more relevant. The gap is even worse compared to years ago, because back then people could settle for a 9. Right now modern cards below 10 are dead weight, and the only people that may buy these are the ones starting their collection. It'll be even worse in the future, the easier it gets to get your hands on 10s, the lower price the rest of the grades will go for.

I know some of you are "investors" and want to make profit off your shit, but investing in PSA9 thinking you'll get rich one day is retarded.

This whole time I thought we were talking about sets pre-2012, and even wotc vintage. You know, sets that matter.

PSA9s are the most liquid and traded/exchanged/bought/sold card grade. Anything below a psa10 for a modern card may be "worthless" but that's only true if you're buying singles to grade yourself. Go to any facebook group or discord or reddit group and you'll see that the majority of sales are of psa9 cards, not 10s. Most people still can't afford 10s of modern cards, and so they still settle for 9s.

You'll get the biggest return on your grading if you get back a 10, but you'll have the easiest time selling a 9. Always.

Tens are fine if you’re interested in exchange value. But if you’re interested primarily in the use value of a card (sentiment and visual appeal), 9s or even 8s are more than adequate for the cost. These are in pack fresh condition, after all.
And incidentally, I’ve never sold or flipped any cards I didn’t have duplicates of. I’m not interested in these cards on the basis of some hypothetical future profits. I think I even overpaid on the McDonald’s slowpoke because I liked the holofoil pattern.

9s and 10s barely have a difference in actual objective quality condition, to the point that resubbing 9s and 10s will cause their grades to alternate on subsequent subs. So as a person that loves a particular pokemon or card, buying them in a 9 allows you to get more of the cards you love in high quality condition.

if 9s are more common than 10s (most vintage), go for the 9

but if 10s are more common than 9s (modern, various promos) get the 10

this way you get the "best representative" of a pack-fresh / like new card, without having to worry about rather pointless grading criteria (e.g. bad back centering on ex-era holos)

I get the best I can reasonably afford or make sense of. If it's a card that is $1,000, I'm probably not going to buy it unless I really like it. The 7/8/9 will be fine for display and the capsule is mostly for show and protection at that point in time, not value.

That being said, there are things like my PSA 9 Umbreon/Darkrai Jumbo that are hard to find and I probably won't ever get a 10 unless I grade it myself. There is a single 10 in existence and whoever owns it, won't sell. I have the only 9, there are three 8s, and the remainder is all PSA7. Stuff like that, I don't mind owning the lower grades at all, because it's just one of those items that you won't run across either way.

Be careful, the One Ring will not be found in regular boxes. Only specific, likely more expensive boxes will have a chance of pulling it. I think they're doing it similar to how Sports Cards load "hobby" boxes and "collectors" boxes.

I was at a release tonight and all together they cracked open 5 booster boxes, 3 ETBs and a booster bundles and misc tins. There was a single Iono and the rest was meh tier, some 30-40 dollar cards and a couple of the Gresha or whatever the fuck she'scalled.

forgot about Aerodactyl.
Basically Lost Origin has 2 cards that everybody want. That giratina and Aerodactyl that is cheaper but still 100-200$.
i'm not an investor-i just did lots of research before deciding to get into the Master Set hell-hole and im expecting to finsih it all except these 2 expensive cards...

if you don't know about any of the starters or gen 9 mons why would you even buy the newest set? just go with lost origin. less pulls overall compared to sv but it'll have pokemon you recognize and a chance at 1 of 2 expensive cards if you care about that.

Honestly I've found both the scarlet and violet and paldea evolved sets a bit underwhelming.
They'll flood you with holos and reverse holos but to pull something actually nice requires obscene amounts of packs.
With the Sword and shield stuff you might not get hits all the time but you can find nice stuff in em often enough.

Newcomer does Venusaur. It's not even bad but I feel betrayed. Venusaur looks like an old school design but all the foliage just becomes unremarkable. The other two are ordinary to be honest. Might get the Venusaur if it's cheap.
