Or do they just not make sense anymore? If movies come back would it just make more sense to focus on the new Legendaries that get introduced in the DLCs or side games like PLA? Is any part of the Pokemon fanbase clamoring for Mythicals to return, or do people not miss them?

I think it's good that we're getting less of them. Mythicals are just legendaries that are timed exclusive unless you cheat them in. Glad newer games let you get more of them normally in game.

Time limited pokemon have always, always, always been utter utter shit and it's the Jap nig-nogs who love to perpetuate them out of a misplaced sense of "rarity."

It would be fine for special move versions of them, but the fact that in the age of updates, we're still doing this is awful. Literally zero reason for Shaymin, Darkrai, Manaphy to be locked away in BDSP for all eternity because "lol you missed this specific time-frame" for them is god awful.

I'm not against the concept of mythical Pokémon, but the distribution methods need changing if they want to keep going with this. Mythicals were best when they were rewards for completing a side game like EU Channel and worst if it was something like getting a serial code card from GameStop, praying that the Pokémon Trainer Club Newsletter actually mails you a code, or whatever the hell Japan does such as the Pokémon Scrap campaigns. On a related note, limited time exclusive clothing options for trainers as of Gen 8 can fuck right off.
I couldn't care less about the movies.
