Charizard is a starter, starters exist as a grouo and are meant to be equal to one another. Giving Charizard special treatment is unfair to Venasaur and Blastoise, and then even if you give Venasaur and Blastoise the same treatment it becomes unfair to the starter trios of other regions.

No one attacks them specifically but people are definitely vocal about the amount of Kantooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo shilling which is what that falls under, like the other anon said. Zard's shilling goes way past just getting mega evolutions or regionals, he's also just fucking everywhere all the time forever meanwhile something like G-Meowth has no real screentime.

Well mega slowbro was one of two Pokémon that BTFO Alain charizard and slowbro did get a major movie role

I can't think of anything else, japs just love dopey looking Pokémon and I'm grateful it still gets some songs and merch thanks to that

Meanwhile mega charizard X got a bunch of special showed up in origins and is the pokemon that defeated ash greninja, then g-max charizard got to be Leon’s ace for no fucking reason and was the pokemon that defeated alan’s mega zard

Honestly Charizard was probably the easiest to design 2 megas for due to having a usable special set and amazing physical movepool. The problem was instead of using their brains to figure out 2 megas for at least the other Kanto starters they just gave them one instead. The idea of "Y is a natural progression, X is a divergent set" is really cool upfront, but it was only explored for the two easiest Pokemon to do it for. Imagine if Blastoise had some Steel/Water physical/defensive setup, or Venusaur had a Grass/Ground sun sweeper setup or something. It would absolutely be doable, Game Freak just either didn't have the time, or didn't care.
