I think them quickbanning Volc and Urshifu when they had around 3 and 2.5 on the last Survey from QUALIFIED players whereas Garg has been floating around 3.5 for 90% of Pre-HOME SV and was said to not have enough support for even a suspect was unironically the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of people

The only reason the Volcarona ban is bad is because it wasn't voted on in a suspect test. Volcarona was obviously overpowered and would've been banned from a suspect test, but a) the council didn't suspect test it prior to HOME support, b) they refuse to even give us a suspect test on more problematic Pokemon like Garganacl, and c) Volcarona has more potential checks now than before with Heatran coming back

It still should've/would've been banned from a test, but having it tested was important. It's not as obviously overpowered as Chien-Pao, Urshifu, Magearna, or Regieleki. It doesn't meet the threshold for a quick ban.

I get booted down to 1400 sometimes, mostly when I hit weather teams over and over and my counters get raped
I used to run trick room but dropped Hat and went full offense with zamazenta and ursaluna doing most of the walling. I also use Sneasler with fake out + normal gem to sweep and sometimes pull off absolutely disgusting dire claw paralyze/sleep procs. The biggest threats I encounter is Walking Wake in sun which dumpsters me and Basculegion-F (male is easier to handle, especially if they get cocky and go tera water so I can stop them with Sneasler)

Z crystals lead to a lot of bullshit ass pulls that were barely tolerable, but dyna was awful, and then even post ban it just felt like you could only prepare for a fraction of the meta between power creep and the dexcut
It was a lot of losing at team preview or to luck, so I've just started playing formats like monotype that lean into that and feel more like zany "just for fun" metas

Just a few pointers from someone who's laddered a lot with HO, and trying to keep the same 6

You lose some offensive power by dropping something for Treads, but the ability to spin, gain easy momentum with Volt Switch (momentum that your team really lacks atm), and at least somewhat take a hit or two from Zap/Torn/Enamorous would go a long way. And Tera Normal D-nite speaks for itself, making you good into offense, esp rain

Are we posting teams? I hit 1500 with this, though it's hardly consistent. SubUrsaluna is good, I swear. Drain Punch is nice at times, but I probably should have Fire Punch or Crunch for Corviknight or floating ghosts. Truth be told, the team was slapdashed together, there are certainly parts of it that aren't optimal. It catches enough people offguard at times for me to like it. Biggest weakness I'd say is probably the complete inability to remove Hazards.

Either ursaluna or braviary depending on what the enemy team looks like. Most of the time I use it for spinblocking but if I swap in without giving myself away it can be a total gamechanger. I bait Zapdos to use hurricane (and miss) instead of tbolt a lot by disguising as ursa, I can bait kingambit to go for kowtow or swords dance and rape it with flamethrower, block dragonites spamming espeed, ect
It also gets a lot of use killing amoonguss and gholdengo (though I usually expect the latter to be scarfed since that's what I see a solid 60% of the time)

Finch gets a lot of blame for ruining Gen 8 OU and I don't think that's entirely true. However the tiering policy he's demonstrated in SV and SS would definitely have ruined SM (Mag/Gren/Lele gone but not Pex, Z-Crystals repeatedly suspected until community acquiescence) had he been in charge then.

Theres been multiple suggestions about forking showdown and making an alternative simulator, and honestly I think that's the best option we have now. Well I mean, if the only way I lose to Sneasler (assuming full health on both sides) is getting sleeped or parahaxed along with it having two moves I've rarely seen it run, then I'd say it's not a bad check. When they Dire Claw, they're betting on the 50% chance of getting a status, the 66% that it is para or sleep, and if it's para, the 33% that I get para'd. Not impossible odds, but I feel like many that have Shadow Claw or Night Slash would click that before clicking Dire Claw, but perhaps not.

It is. Because you have literally no way of knowing WHEN or to WHAT type the opponent will change and how their tera blast will change, while with Dynamax scouting their moves also tells you their max moves and it applies consistently across all Pokemon so the only qiuestion is WHEN.
I am not necessarily saying I agree with them on this, but the logic used to ban Dynamax as "uncompetitive" does apply extremely consistently here and people aren't really thinking about it beyond that if people had to choose one they would use Dynamax because it's stronger in a vacuum.

It's part of it, but the crux of the issue is both it's unpredictability and the potential strain it holds on teambuilding to need to account for potential Tera types against x y and z mons a certain team member is SUPPOSED to be able to reasonably handle (which is why many argue Tera Type Preview wouldn't fix it, even if I think it's still worth a shot).
Also, it's not like Tera is very unhealthy in Double. I'm not gonna start another "GF only balances for VGC" spiel, but the fact that it's considered perfectly healthy in one of the official formats should say that the mechanic's issues don't fundamentally lie in it's interaction with offensive STABs (even if a lot of it could be pinned on the fact that setup sweepers generally suck dick in Doubles when they're the mechanic's main beneficiaries in Singles).

I don't even think Tera is that unpredictable. Of course you'll sometimes get blindsided by something random like a Bug-type Ceruledge but most Pokemon have 1 or 2 types max that they will chose from. It's not even impossible to predict when that type will come out. But it definitely does lend a huge amount of power to certain Pokemon that are already really good and pushes them over the edge.

No that is not the scenario they are complaining about. Your opponent has Volcarona on the field, maybe you fainted their previous Pokemon or they brought it in with Chilly reception etc, whatever it doesn't matter. You're at a disadvantage in the matchup, and you need to switch. Volcarona knows you need to swap out, so it quiver dances in its base typing. Now you need to pick a new current Pokemon that has a type advantage and can force out a +1 Volcarona.
But wait, Volcarona with +1 special attack hits pretty god damn hard, and you had no way of accounting for every tera it could be running off a single switch! And if it happens to have the right tera to resist your counter and QDs to +2 you could lose right then and there if you don't have an unaware mon.

It gets really messy really fast and despite claims about fanfic meta, smogon does want its mons to resemble actual mons. These mons get these moves and abilities, so they should get to use them - in the appropriate tier for their strength.

Because this isn't a new concept in the slightest. Not even in this gen alone. Annihilape and Espathra got banned for a single move, G-Darmanitan and Blaziken got banned for an ability, and you could even argue that Marshadow only got the boot due to Spectral Thief.

It's consistency until you Smogonfags decide that a rule needs to be broken for what's convenient to you. The Swagger ban realistically only had 2 offenders that warranted even the consideration of action taken, but a blanket move ban was implemented instead.

Nobody good at the game is going to shed tears over swagger being gone as a thing you can randomly run into on ladder, but the principle of the matter is that you claim "oh we're just being consistent" on one hand as if policy were empirical and objective, yet bravely pioneer new policy on the other with half-baked rationalizations of how they're different and "healthy for the game" on the other, which is a fundamentally subjective measure as you flipflop between the two depending on what works better for you at the moment. Coupled with the very liberal use of quickbans toward certain types of problem mons within specific playstyles, when the purpose of quickbans is to get rid of "obviously broken" stuff like box legends at the start of a gen far outside the normal reaches of what could even be remotely considered consensus for obviously broken and after suspect process' has begun for other things (again, picking and choosing which standards to apply as convenient), it's clear the council has an agenda about exactly what type of meta they're trying to cultivate and the terrible pilpul to justify it as a community input process via suspect tests are of lower importance than quickbans instead of vice versa, a lot of people are rightfully tired of this intellectually dishonest shit and willing to consider alternatives the moment they present themselves.

So because Smeargle can learn any move, does this mean any meta Smeargle is legal in, a mon that's broken for having a specific move is immediately in the mythical "more than 1 mon learns this move" criterion and thus the offending move can now be looked at instead of a blanket ban of the mon?

It's always been one standard. >1 broken pokemon using the move = move ban, <2 broken pokemon using the move = mon ban
Primeape isn't broken when it uses Rage Fist, so Annihilape is what goes rather than Rage Fist.

Now this is just historical revisionism. Cyclizar outclassed Orthworm, but it was well understood that Orth was potentially a decent slow pivot alternative depending on how the meta settled.
Furthermore, if the council didn't have the foresight to anticipate such a simple metagame shift, why should they be trusted with the capacity to quickban at all?

Your attempts to constantly wriggle out of owning up to any of your fuckups and instead double down on the mental gymnastics selectively picking and choosing which subjective properties of the game are self-evident and which need to be justified with proof are why Smogon has such a bad reputation outside of the hugbox, Finch.

The meta is stall because that gives the smogon player the maximum amount of time to groom his/xer opponent in the chat. Anything that threatens stall also threatens their ability to groom minors, so it gets banned.

The only metagame that is in any capacity "Stall" (AKA the definition you retards use which means that it has majority teams that rely on defensive cores) is fucking gen 8 and even there offense does well

Everything since Gen 5 (and especially in gen 9) has leaned really hard into offense regardless of bans
