The idea of this nebulous "common power level" is non-existent with megas. In fact due to what they are the power level disparity is much larger.

megas should've been reserved purely for mons at the end of a three stage, especially if they're "underpowered" gameplay wise or just don't seem fully realized as a concept
it really fucking annoys me we'll never get to see sableye or banette actually evolve because of gamefreak's retarded gimmick made purely to sell toys of the "advanced form" shillmons

but they permanently close off ANY potential for a mon to recieve actual evolutions in the future
sure not everything NEEDS to be a three stager but they could at least leave the possibility open for future evolutions that actually expand on the design instead of just adding pointless spikes and doodads

And, as you admitted not everything has to be but you want the option, if it doesn't have to be a 3 stage Mon a two stage with a Stat boost is actually fine

Think about it stuff like delcatty and Butterfree got Stat boost when Megas became a thing, what's not to say that they wouldn't buf older two and single stage mons moving forward with our the need to make a cross Gen Evo, just look at how stantler is now stuck in Evo Limbo to, do you really want Pokémon to have that kind of situation because of game freak bizarre decisions?

Autism. There has never been a rule stating this, only a pattern. Don’t blame the mechanic for Game Freak’s lousy dev work. Any respectable dev would have rebalanced a lot of shit since at least Gen 3, and Game Freak has botched several opportunities since then to do so.

Regardless, there’s no guarantee you’d even like a new evo for your favorite mon. I doubt anyone likes every cross-gen evo, and mon like Banette would still be shit with eviolite.
