This ruined pokemon. You can cry about XY all you want, but Pokemon GO is the real reason the series is as bad as it is now. Pokemon GO was already in production when X and Y were being made.

Yes and no. XY proved that GameFreak weren't good developers and couldn't quite handle making good-quality 3D games. Pokemon GO's popularity made the main series games less relevant, which meant that GameFreak could put even less work into the games. Lastly, BDSP proved that TPCi could shit out complete garbage and still make money. I've noticed that SV have received flack even on shill sites like Reddit and Bulbagarden. The Metacritic rating is also abysmal. Had it not been for the success of cashgrabs like GO and BDSP, they probably would've released a patch for SV to quiet some people down, but at this point they don't need to since most of their money comes from merchandise and GOnads. The main series games are just a formality.

The games were clearly rushed and not finished in several areas, the story was a mess, the game's balance was worse than gen 2 and still had the issue of constant cutscenes, and there wasn't a postgame of any kind. And this is coming from someone whose favorite region is kalos, I still think they're full of sovl and wish they had another year of dev time

After Gen 8 started. And if you simple fuckers had an ounce of reading comprehension, you'd understand it's a TPCi-only employee rights policy and most likely concerning the US-based arm of the marketing label, as I'm pretty sure the EU would have more than just mexican representation on its chart of representation if it were applicable on the right side of the Atlantic.

It was 100% Go. There's interviews where they straight out state that the mainline video games are no longer the center focal point everything else is based on anymore, so rather than treat the new region and its new Pokemon as the big and exciting new face of Pokemon, they now treat them as further additions to the big all-gen Pokemon blob that has Kanto as its permanent primary face.

It's very easy to see if you look at merch and how hard the shift went from "merch primarily features Pokemon from the newest gen" to "merch primarily features Kanto, followed by a mix of other gen Pokemon with maybe some slight priority given to the newest gen". Nowdays it's hard to even tell what the fuck gen any given merch was released during.

GO skyrocketed Pokémon popularity again after you ears of it being faded out.
And it keeps adding designs to its rooster. In a perfect world, we would have gotten a multi platform game as a service made by competent people with actual content and not a mobile shit. But this isn’t a perfect world and the nu-pokemon games sell like hot cakes. There is no hope for this franchise.

When normies adopt a system, they neutralise the pokédrone's spending power, leading to it "underperforming" as there's more people spending money on Nintendo games vs JUST pokémon games like in GBA or 3DS eras .

SV’s critical scores pretty much all note their main issue is the performance and that there’s a solid game underneath (which is echoed in fan scores as well as the remaining dexbabies) and BDSP despite being soulless rehashes in terms of amount of content and presentation has the best battles in the series in its late and post-game.

I think people just look at older games with rose tinted glasses, the games have never been groundbreaking or anything but are saved by a solid core structure repeatedly let down by presentation
